The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
| Posted on 5 June, 2015 at 8:10 |
Just recently I came across a little pocket book that I had forgotten all about; Deepak Chopra's "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success". I was attending a networking event where I had to present a 10 minute presentation to business owner's, I was looking for something that would help to guide them.
In the world of business there is a focus on goal setting, planning and acheivements; looking ahead to plan the direction and future of the business. But just as in our personal day to day life, if we constantly focus on what is ahead we forget to enjoy, and BE in the moment. We can lose sight of the fact that it is our actions in this present moment that ultimately will create our success in the future.
This little book, which is from a series called One Hour of Wisdom, can be read section by section or completely in one sitting. So for busy lives it is the perfect companion for a handbag or brief case, allowing easy reading, diving in and out whenever the mood fits. It is not restricted to those running businesses but speaks to everyone, as no matter what we want for our selves in our lives, we all want success. But what is success? My favourite defintion of sucess is by the author Paulo Coelho "It is being able to go to bed each night with your soul at peace."
What then, according to Dr Chopra are the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success?
- The Law of Pure Potentiality
The first law is the Law of Pure Potentiality; that we are made of the same essense as everything in the universe; when we become one with this essense we realise their are no limits to our potential. Some methods of connecting with this essence, he suggests, are meditation, being mindful, simply "BE", practicing non-judgement towards ourselves and others; taking walks in nature. I would also add that Reiki gives me this experience of being one with all that is around me. - The Law of Giving and Receiving
The second spiritual law for success is the Law of Giving and Receiving. Everything in the universe operates through dynamic exchange; every relationship is based on give and take because giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. If we stop one then the other will also stagnate. The intentions behind our giving and receiving is the most important thing. You must give or receive with joy, not grudgingly or there is no energy behind the action. The Law of Giving and Receiving is simple: if you want love, learn to give love, if you want attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation, if you want material affluence, help others to become materially affluent. - The Law of Karma or Cause and Effect
Karma is both action and the consequence of that action. Therefore, the third spiritual law; the Law of Karma, implies the action of conscious choice making. Some choices are made consciously, while a lot of our choices are made unconsciously, and therefore we don't think they are choices - and yet, they are. As a result of conditioning, our choices are often triggered by people and circumstances into predictable outcomes. The best way to use Karmic Law is to step back and witness the choices you are making in every moment; be fully conscious to the present moment. Whenever you make a choice ask yourself two questions: "What are the consequences of this choice?" and "Will this choice bring happiness to me and to those that are affected by this choice?" and finally, ask your heart for guidance. By paying attention to the sensations of comfort or discomfort in your body - if your body sends a message of comfort that's the right choice. If you feel uneasiness in your body even as you ask the question, then it's not the appropriate choice. - The Law of Least Effort
This is the principle of "Do less, and accomplish more." When we learn this lesson from nature, we easily fulfill our desires.
If we observe nature at work, we see that the least effort is expended. Grass doesn't try to grow, it just grows. Fish don't try to swim; they just swim. This is their intrinsic nature. It is the nature of the sun to shine. And it is human nature to make our dreams manifest into physical form - easily and effortlessly.
How can you put the Law of Least Effort into actions?
There are three things you can do.
The first thing is to accept people, situations, and events as they are now, not as you wish they were, in this moment. You can intend for things to be different in the future, but in this moment, accept things as they are.
The second thing is to take responsibility for your situation and for all the events you see as problems. This means not blaming anyone or anything for your situation, including yourself. Responsibility means the ability to have a creative response to the situation as it is now.
A third way to put the Law of Least Effort into action is to practice defencelessness. This means relinquishing the need to convince others of your point of view. As you drop the burden of defensiveness and resentment, you become lighthearted, joyous and free.
The Law of Least Effort assures us that there is always a simple, natural path to fulfillment. When you combine acceptance, responsibility, and defenselessness, your life flows with effortless ease. - The Law of Intention and Desire
The fifth spiritual law of success, the Law of Intention and Desire, says that our intentions and desires, when released in the field of pure potentiality, have infinite organizing power. This isn't a mystical notion. Every time we have a desire to walk or lift our arms, our intention incites millions of chemical reactions and electrical impluses that obey fixed laws of nature. We can consciously change the energy and information of our own body, and influence the energy and information of our extended body - our environment - and cause things to manifest in it. This change is brought about by two qualities inherent in consciousness: attention and intention. Attention energizes, and intention transforms.
Intention is the real power behind desire because it is desire without attachment to the outcome. When we combine intention with detachment, our intent is for the future, while our attention is in the present. Present moment awareness is powerful, because the future is created by our actions in the present. - The Law of Detachment
The sixth spiritual law of success, the Law of Detachment, says that the way to acquire anything in the universe is to relinquish our attachment to it. Anything we want can be acquired through detachment, because detachment is based on the unquestioning belief in the power of the Self. When things don't seem to go our way, we can let go of our idea of how things should be. Attachment is the melodrama of the ego, because it is based on fear and insecurity, and this comes from not realizing the power of the Self.
In ancient wisdom traditions, the solution to this dilemma lies in our willingness to detach from the known, step into the unknown, and surrender our desires to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe (remember the saying "Let go and Let God"). The universe means one song. Your every intention or heart's desire is like a melody in nature's symphony; all you have to do is sing your song.
The Law of detachment does not interfere with goal setting. We still have the intention of going in a certain direction, but between point A and point B there are infinite possibilities. When we experience uncertainty, we're on the right path, and it's the fertile ground of pure creativity and freedom. This means whenever you encounter a problem, you stay grounded in the wisdom of uncertainty, while expentantly waiting for a solution to emerge. If you remain detached you won't feel compelled to force solutions on problems. This enables you to stay alert to opportunities, and then what emerges is something powerful and exciting. - The Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life
The seventh spiritual law of success, the Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life, says that we are spiritual beings who have taken physical form to fulfill a purpose. The Law of Dharma implies more than seeking work that we love; it implies our unique destiny, our place in the cosmic plan. The root of the word dharma, in Sanskrit, gives us a valuable clue: It means "to uphold." We know we've become part of the cosmic plan when the universe upholds and supports us.
If money was no concern and you had all the time in the world, what would you do? If you would still do what you currently do, then you are in dharma because you have passion for what you do. How are you best suited to serve humanity? Answer that question, put it into practice, and you can generate all the wealth that you want.
When your creative expressions match the needs of your fellow humans, wealth spontaneously flows from the realm of the spirit to the world of form. You begin to experience your life as a miraculous expression of divinity - not just occassionally, but all the time. And you will know true joy and the true meaning of success - the ecstasy and exultation of your own spirit.
Have you seen some of these laws already operating in your life? For myself, I have found that through the practice of meditation and energy healing practices; I have become calmer, more focused and better able to understand myself. I feel that I have begun to take responsibility for the consequences of my actions and to respond better to forces outside myself. As a result I feel an awful lot stronger in my sense of self and enjoy life much more. Would I call that successful?........Yes, I think I would; but this does not mean that I am not still on a path of seeking further self knowledge and exploration!
What are your thoughts on the seven spiritual laws of success?
I would love to hear your feedback.
